Red beet is the taproot portion of the beet plant. Usually the deep purple roots of beetroot are eaten boiled, roasted or raw, and either alone or combined with any salad vegetable. Apart from being used as food red beets are also known as a natural food colouring agent. Betanin that is obtained from the roots is applied to improve the colour and flavour of tomato paste, sauces, deserts, jams and ice cream and many other foods.

Red beets are also famous for their health benefits that can be attributed to their richness in nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Main countries of origin are Poland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and China.

Dried red beets are available as stripes, diced, flakes and powder.
