The Plant Protection Department (PPD) part of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD), Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and the Sustainable Spices Initiative (SSI) have announced a new cooperation to promote and support the sustainable production and trade of Vietnamese pepper.
The agreement, in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, formalizes the mutual interaction and strengthens the existing relationship between the PPD, IDH and SSI at the strategic and working level. The MoU sets forth the understanding and intentions of the parties with regards to sustainable pepper production and trade. The MoU is intended to work as a catalyst for a more sustainable black pepper sector in Vietnam. Vietnam is the world’s largest producer and exporter of black pepper and represents approximately 60% of the world’s traded pepper.
The MoU is signed by Nguyen Quy Duong, Vice-Director of the PPD, Huynh Tien Dung, Country Director of IDH Vietnam and Alfons van Gulick, Chairman of the SSI and CEO of Nedspice.
